Apartel, a
new super-group formed by legendary Eraserheads front man and
songwriter Ely Buendia, alongside co-conspirator and founder, Gnash/DRT
front-man, and songwriter Jay Ortega has just launched their first ever
single entitled “Is It Hip?”. Luckily, I am one of the blogger
who got an invite to see and attend the music video launch of his latest
band. It was held at Victoria Court Malate last September 17, 2016.
The event starts
with a press conference together with other blogger and media partners.
The conference took place at one of the Batman themed rooms of Victoria
Court.
According to Jay Ortega, Ely came up with the name of the band. He (Ely) was inspired with the 80's Band "The Motel", and they think it is a perfect fit to the type of music that they do. The song genre they play are essentially soul, jazz, funk and RnB.
The band was composed of committed and passionate musicians that are very talented; Ely and Jay as vocalists, Ramonne and Donna as singers, Pat Sarabia on drums, RJ Pineda on keyboards, Redge Concepcion as lead guitar, Louie Talan on bass, the group Bras Pas Pas Pas on horns, Deej Rodriguez for percussion, and Roxy Modesto on saxophone.
One of the things that makes Apartel different from other band is that they are well dressed-up. According to Jay, it fits the vibe of the music and they owe it to the audience to look good; nevertheless their songs will still reach the masses because it's easy listening.
Apartel's debut album "Inner Play" consists of 12 original songs, 3 of which is Tagalog song. Under Offshore Music Philippines. What's unique with this album is that it will be available in Vinyl, which is pressed in Japan and will be on sale in the market by December. Their album will also be available in 241 countries which you can download through Spotify, Apple Music and Deeze.
"Is It Hip?" was directed by Marie Jamora. According to Ely - they wanted someone who has experience not only in music video but also in featured film because they want a very unware sensibility music video.
"We actually also both directors but we rather have a third person who na ka-vibe din, same wavelength na ma-gets din ung ibig sabihin ng song.", Jay added.
But why choose Victoria Court? Victoria Court is always on the lookout for out-of-the-box events and the launching of Apartel's music video is definitely one of them.
After the interview, we headed out to the Victoria Court party wing. The Victoria Court Malate Party Wing was transformed into an intimate concert area for Apartel's guests where they can eat, drink and dance the night away. This one-of-a-kind event infuses sight, sound and taste, which is distinctly the Victoria Court way.
Before the launch of the music video, Mean Jay and Farewell Fairweather open the night with their hip and cool music. There are also mini games for the crowd courtesy of their sponsors.
Apartel
play all of their song together with few covers and solo pieces.
Amazing night indeed! Especially with this people who are amazing as
well.
With Yvonne, Kuya Tony, Natalie, Orlee and Jinky
Thank
you Apartel, Victoria Court and the crew for pulling up such a
spectacular event! I feel honored to be able to meet Ely Buendia, Jay
Ortega and the rest of the band.
Key words that lock in Apartel and Victoria Court - check in, trip out. Both brands are alluring, sensual, funky, and groovy... once you check in; you're sure to trip out.

Looks like a fun event and I am digging the music!
ReplyDeleteI love performers who actually dress to perform instead of in grubbies. This group looks so cool.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved Ely Buendia and the songs he made during Eraserheads era. Somehow I got stuck to the Eraserheads that I didn't get the chance to appreciate everything else he wrote after that.
ReplyDeleteEly is one of the legends in Philippine music na! I will check it out if I can find the song on YouTube. I agree with your impression na the band was formed and opted to dress well. Tama na ang sobrang ... I don't know the term pero uso sa younger generation.
ReplyDeleteEly is out again with a new band. haha! But this time the genre is different to what he is doing before. Will listen to it in spotify to know if it can be at par with Eheads. haha! but kidding aside, I'm sure this will be a big hit. Kay Ely pa lang, super nice na ng composition ng members. ;)

I have never heard of Ely. Pherhaps he hasn't made it to Australia yet. I love live music and try to see bands as often as possible. There is nothing like being in the dance floor 😀
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of Ely. It sounds like a great event though. Great that you were there. And you got a great picture! I will listen some of the music and see if I like it!
ReplyDeleteWalang kupas si Ely! I bet this was an awesome event. The pictures tell me you all had fun! :) I wish I was here. I think I saw the invite on this one but I couldn't commit to the time so I didn't sign up. :)
ReplyDeleteBest of luck for this newly launched aspiring music artists! The fact that it's formed by THE Ely Buendia says it all. It's definitely a band we shouldn't miss. Hopefully, more people will get to love their music. Enjoy and goodluck! :)
ReplyDeleteWow! This is something to look forward on our music industry. and Oh I love that they dress up they look more professional not just an ordinary up coming band. Im so excited to see them on big screens and concert. Knowing Ely, I believe they can make it to the top!
ReplyDeleteI truly love new bands, they put so much energy and efforts to their performance. It doesn't even need to be a big show to impress the audience. It is all about passion.
ReplyDeleteIs it me or Ely Buendia seems like he hasn't aged at all? This looks promising since Ely Buendia is present. I've only known him because of Eraserheads and a few songs. Not a hardcore fan but their songs are really great. Super love the lyrics! So much feels. I hope they would succeed as many fans are looking forward to this (I guess)!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to know that Ely Buendia is mentoring new bands these days. Ely does look like he isn't aging at all. I've heard of farewell fareweather from a bar here in Katipunan and they sounded great too. Let's see who among these bands will be the future icon of next gen.
